Traffic Records in Williamson County
A ticket written into a city system belongs to that city's Municipal Court. Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Leander, Hutto, and Taylor each run their own court. Each also runs its own Tyler citation portal. These municipal courts handle city-ordinance matters plus fine-only Class C state-law offenses. A notice that names a Williamson Justice Court instead belongs to JP1, JP2, JP3, or JP4. Check the precinct on the citation against official boundary information. Do not assume the nearest courthouse is the right one.
The clerk of the issuing municipal or JP court keeps the actual court record. It may show citation and cause identifiers, the offense, the plea, settings, payment, costs, disposition, driver-safety activity, and failure-to-appear status. That record is separate from the county's Odyssey civil and felony paths. It is also separate from a Texas driver record. District Courts and County Courts at Law rarely come first for a traffic lookup. That holds unless the notice itself names one.
Six City Portals, Six Local Rulesets
Each of the six city portals takes a citation number with date of birth. Driver-license number works too, paired with state and date of birth. License plate and state work as well. Georgetown, Leander, and Taylor also allow a search by first name, last name, and date of birth. Round Rock adds Social Security number plus date of birth. Cedar Park and Hutto offer no name mode at all. Controls change. Rely only on the search options the live issuing-city screen actually shows you.
| Issuing city | Official search | Useful fallback |

| Georgetown | Citation portal | 510 W 9th Street; 512-930-3625 |

| Hutto | Citation portal | 500 W Live Oak Street; 512-759-1011 |

How to Look Up a Williamson Traffic Ticket
Treat the citation as your routing document. The court name on it matters more than where you live. A city police ticket usually stays in Municipal Court. A Justice Court notice, though, follows its own precinct. Lost the ticket? Only some city portals allow a name search. The clerk's phone or counter is the dependable fallback.
- Read the issuing court, citation number, defendant date of birth, appearance date, and any cause number from the ticket.
- Open that city’s Tyler portal or the named Justice Court page. Search by citation number and date of birth first.
- If needed, try driver-license or vehicle information. Use name and date of birth only where Georgetown, Leander, Taylor, or another live portal offers it.
- For no result, call or visit the issuing clerk. Round Rock says to allow four business days for officer filing, and similar timing can affect a new citation elsewhere.
- Record the current status, response deadline, amount, plea effect, and court date. Confirm unclear or conflicting information with the court before acting.
Finding the Traffic Court Date
The date on a citation is usually an appearance or response date. It is not a trial date. Later, the online court record may show a pretrial, hearing, trial, reset, or disposition. Round Rock posts a weekly docket, jury information, and canceled-trial notices. A cancellation does not mean the case was dismissed. Before you drive anywhere, compare the ticket with the live entry. Call the court if the two differ.
| Citation Number | Enter the exact number shown on the ticket, such as the issuing court’s printed identifier; research confirmed no single countywide format. |
|---|---|
| Court | The city Municipal Court or JP precinct that owns the case, not a general county portal. |
| Date & Time | Distinguish the initial appearance deadline from a later pretrial, hearing, or trial setting. |
| Courtroom | Confirm the official court location. Leander uses the Council Chamber’s east entrance for court. |
| Status | Read the court’s exact wording: pending, paid, dismissed, disposed, reset, no appearance, or warrant are not interchangeable. |
Local Timing and Hearing Details
City courts differ in the practical details. Cedar Park holds most hearings in person. Its limited Zoom use requires a judge-approved written request with photo identification. Leander sends fine-payment visitors to the south lobby entrance. It keeps its document drop box on the south side and uses the east entrance for the courtroom. Hutto opens Monday and Wednesday through Friday. It closes the office Tuesday for court. Taylor operates as a Court of Record and publishes separate pretrial, trial, extension, payment-plan, community-service, and SAFE HARBOR paths.
This is why one city's portal result never serves as instructions for another. Verify hours, entrances, remote-hearing permission, and filing methods on the issuing court's current page.
Paying or Contesting a Williamson Ticket
Read the payment screen before you submit anything. Round Rock and Hutto both warn that online payment can enter a guilty or no-contest plea. It can also end in conviction. To contest, you generally enter a not-guilty plea by the citation's deadline. You then get a pretrial or trial setting. Driver safety, deferred disposition, compliance dismissal, and other alternatives are separate requests tied to each court's eligibility rules. Pay first and you may close off the option you wanted.
| Paying the Ticket | Contesting the Ticket |
|---|---|
| May enter a guilty or no-contest plea and record a conviction under the court’s terms. | Enters a not-guilty response and leads to the court’s hearing or trial process. |
| Pay or arrange an approved option by the deadline on the citation or court notice. | Submit the plea or hearing request by that same controlling response deadline. |
| Methods may include online, phone, mail, or counter, depending on court. | Follow that court’s written or in-person instructions; do not assume online payment contests the case. |
Missed Appearance or Payment: Failure to respond can lead to added charges, a warrant, and a DPS-related license or renewal flag, depending on the case. Contact the issuing court for the exact clearance steps. City notices say DPS status may take three to five business days to update after court processing, but that is not a guarantee for every transaction.
Driver Safety Is a Court Disposition Path
A defensive-driving request is not a docket search. It is a court disposition path, and each Williamson County court sets its own terms. Eligibility comes first, then a plea, fees, proof, and completion on the court's clock. The JP3 form asks for the cause number, the citation number, driver-license details, insurance, and notarization. It requires $144 and completion with a Type 3A record within 90 days. JP4 materials state the same $144 and the same 90-day deadline. Taylor charges $144 outside a school zone or $169 in a school zone. That is plus card processing, and it lists speed exclusions. None of those amounts carry over to a different court. Pay only what your court's docket entry orders.
Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record
A court traffic file covers one citation, nothing more. The Texas Department of Public Safety keeps the state driving record, and reportable convictions, suspensions, and eligibility details can end up there. So a municipal search that turns up nothing does not mean the driving history is clean. A court disposition is not an insurance record either.
| Court Traffic Record | Driver Record | |
|---|---|---|
| Kept By | Issuing Municipal Court or Justice Court clerk | Texas Department of Public Safety |
| Shows | Citation, plea, settings, disposition, fine, and case events | Reported convictions, suspensions, and driver-history information |
| How to Get It | Court portal, phone/counter inquiry, or clerk copy request | Official Texas DPS driver-record request channel |
Fees and Traffic Record Copies
There is no uniform copy-fee schedule across Williamson County municipal and JP courts. Ask the issuing clerk for the current price. When you order, name the exact citation, the document you want, and whether it must be certified. Keep copy charges separate from the fine itself. Court costs, the card convenience fee, late charges, and the driver-safety fee are also separate.
| Item | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Plain traffic-case copy | Confirm with issuing court | Municipal and JP schedules can differ. |
| Certified traffic-case copy | Confirm with issuing court | Certification is a separate clerk service. |
| Portal or payment charge | Varies by court | Hutto states a 4.25% card charge; Round Rock and Hutto mention a $15 charge after day 31. Neither is countywide. |
The portal posts no search fee and no export charge. That silence is not a promise of free copies or transactions. Taylor's driver-safety amount and the JP remedy fees still apply, but only to their stated processes.
